UPTC Meeting.   Feb, 16  2000

This was one of the shortest meetings I ever attended.

Dr. Shine's report

There was a discussion about the recent Southener article at the last board meeting. The result is that there will now a board policy for student publications. This is really just a copy of the State School Board recommended policy. This will get sent to UTPC for comments, then back to the board for final adoption. Budget coming up. Looks like a 5% increase over last year. There are reports coming out soon about the pollution under the Sperry plant. It has spread far enough to reach the GNS property. Parents should be informed, but the school district has no official comments yet.

Geese

The district is still waiting for their depredation permits to be approved so they can whack the nests.

Committee Reports

Gifted and Talented

Legislative

Legislative committee spoke with Judy Bosworth about changing the law that enabled charter schools. She feels it is too early to approach politicians about that.

There will be a parents meeting with Balboni & DiNapoli on Thursday March 30th. It's just to meet with them and let them here our concerns. No specific agenda.

SMDC

The SMDC committee was formed and active in '93-94 to form the district wide plan. It's been dormant, but now has to reactivate to recertify the process. The state requires that. The problem is few people are interested in that group. They proposed filling the committee with representatives from the school SMDC's, with a strict attendance (at the district wide meeting) requirement.

Safety & Transportation

LIE construction on or close to schedule. Our buses now have cell phones in addition to the radios. Reviewing transportation budget.

Committee Descriptions

We read through the committee descriptions really quickly. Next meeting we can discuss and approve (or not) them.
