Personal

Some members of my family call me Toasty. It's a name that my nephew gave me at breakfast a few years ago, after I asked him if he would like some toast. He thought "Uncle Toasty" was hysterically funny, and the name stuck.

It's funny stuff. Often more heat than light.

I've acquired some oddball equipment that I have to get rid of.
  • Tegra Genesis Laser Phototypesetter
This was a beauty in it's day (circa 1990). 1000 DPI at 20 pages a minute. It's a big machine (4'w x 2'd x by 18"h) on a big pedastal base. The RIP that drives it is a large tower deskside computer (Not Intel, It actually an NS 32016 running Coherent). Has serial and compugraphics interfaces. Includes manuals and spare drums. Original cost as > $40K. The imagesetter itself is a Varityper 2100 (serial FB00227), and the RIP is a Genesis (serial 141).
It only understands Compugraphic 8600 typesetter commands. You cannot drive it from a windows machine. You cannot drive it from Ghostscript. If you are brave, however, you can have my troff printer driver for it.
I want to know what you want it for. I have fond memories of that machine, having made it work from a Unix box in spite of the manufacturer thinking we were nuts, so I want to know it has a good home.
